Hyundai Motor America CEO Dave Zuchowski said the company plans to offer a new twin-turbo V6 engine with the Genesis in 2017 or 2018. Automotive News reports it will generate around 420 horsepower like the current 5.0L V8 despite being significantly lighter.
Over the next few years, Hyundai will downsize its engines while making them more powerful and more fuel-efficient in an effort to meet increasingly stringent emissions regulations.
Hyundai's green shift became clearer last week at the 2015 New York Auto Show with the launch of the all-new 2016 Tucson, which combines a 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission on all but base trim levels.
