"This is a very exciting time for Lexus," added Payne. "We are forging a new direction for the brand, strengthening the identity of Lexus in Canada and around the world."

The first production vehicle to be influenced by the brand's new design language, which Lexus dubs L-Finesse, is the upcoming 2006 GS 300/430.

"L-Finesse will add more emotion to our lineup," continued Payne, "and ensure that our vehicles are recognized not only as the best-made cars in the world featuring advanced technology, but also the best designed, with common styling cues throughout the complete lineup."

When the previous generation GS launched as a 1998 model, a more aggressively styled and powerfully endowed update to the original, conservatively drawn GS that debuted in 1992 as a 1993 model, its 5-Series fighting performance created a lot of buzz. Unfortunately for Lexus, that initial excitement waned after the first year honeymoon was over and sales began to slip.

By the rakish looks of the new GS, as well as promised top-tier performance, the love should remain alive a lot longer. The new model will also be the first Lexus sedan to offer all-wheel drive, plus it will feature impressive technologies never before offered on a production car.

"The all-new V8 GS 430 will be equipped with the world's first Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system (or VDIM) that will seamlessly ensure vehicle control," stated Payne.
