After putting its cars in the first three positions on the starting grid, Sam Schmidt Motorsports went home with the two first positions in the Firestone Indy Lights' season opener.

Josef Newgarden, who started third in the No. 11 Sam Schmidt Motorsports car, led teammate Conor Daly across the finish line by 0.8552 of a second to win in his series debut.

Peter Dempsey, who started fifth in the O2 Racing car, finished third while Canadian David Ostella advanced seven positions to finish fourth in the Team Jensen entry.

Pole-sitter Esteban Guerrieri, who ran second to Newgarden from Laps 12-43, dropped to seventh as he was forced wide in Turn 1 on the second of two restarts in the 45-lap race.

Great race also for another Canadian. Mikael Grenier, who started from the back after missing qualifications due to repairs on his car, finished in seventh place in his first ever Indy Lights race.
