Frenchman Tristan Vautier, in only his second oval track race, earned his first oval pole in preparation for the upcoming Milwaukee 100 presented by the Firestone Indy Lights Series.
Vautier, driving the No. 77 Mazda Road to Indy/Sam Schmidt Motorsport car, recorded a two-lap average speed of 146.884 mph to claim the team's 51st pole start.
Victor Carbone (146.429 mph) will join the 2011 Star Mazda champion on the front row.
Vautier, who is second in the series' standings to teammate Esteban Guerrieri following five events, started from the pole in his first Firestone Indy Lights race at the St. Petersburg opener in March.
Sebastian Saavedra in the No. 27 Team AFS car and Carlos Munoz, driving the No. 26 Team Dialy-Ser car for Andretti Autosport will share Row 2.
The 100-lap race is scheduled for 6:45 pm later today, Friday.
