It appears that Graham Rahal is close to signing a deal with Chip Ganassi that would see the young American driver be part of a second Ganassi team during the 2011 IndyCar season.
The reports state that the 21-year-old would be part of an independent, satellite team that would use Ganassi’s personnel and resources.
As Auto123.com reported some time ago, Rahal finalised a major sponsorship deal with TBC Retail Group and was looking for a home for the next season with Newman-Haas Racing and Rahal Letterman as possible destinations.
Also, rumours has it that Chip Ganassi is also considering fielding a second new car for Indy Lights’ veteran Charlie Kimball to be Rahal's teammate. If everything goes according to plan, there would be two distinctive teams rather than one with four cars on the starting grids.
Ganassi's last American driver to run a full-time program in the IRL was Jeff Ward in 2002.
