Andretti Autosport's Marco Andretti claimed his second long overdue win at Iowa Speedway on Saturday night after a superb battle with KV Racing's Tony Kanaan.
Tony Kanaan finished second merely 0.7932 seconds behind his former teammate with Scott Dixon coming through from 23rd on the grid to third for Ganassi.
Behind the leading trio, JR Hilderbrand was able to cross the finish line in fourth while Dario Franchitti, who seemed to have the race under control for most of the evening, faded to fifth.
A night to forget for Penske's Will Power with first a pit incident with Charlie Kimball then a spin into the wall. He sustained a slight concussion which was probably caused by damage from the pit clash.
The end of the race was decided in the pits as the Andretti crew managed to turn their driver around faster, with Andretti sweeping past Franchitti in the pit exit.
Sato brought out the last yellow by spinning into the Turn 2 wall and at the subsequent restart, Kanaan pushed past Franchitti for second.
Andretti and the Brazilian would swap first place no fewer than five times before Andretti finally was able to take his first victory since 2006.
