According to his own admission, IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard is under a lot of pressure from some of the series' team owners who are trying to get him removed from his position.
"It is true that an owner is calling others trying to have me fired. I have had several owners confirm this. Disappointing." Bernard wrote on his Twitter account Tuesday night.
Although Bernard did not divulged much information regarding the identity of that owner, we know for a fact that this attempted “Coup d’Etat” is coming from one or more Chevrolet squads. Bernard did mention tough that Roger Penske was not the culprit.
Recent decisions made by the series, mainly the famed “Turbogate” that allowed Honda to modify its turbo design left a sour taste for some teams, mainly Chevrolets.
All the heavy fines that were given recently to some teams during the Indy 500, as well as the concerns about the costs of the new DW12 chassis blowing out well beyond the promised figure of $350,000.
This internal conflict is not without reminding us of similar feuds that prevailed in the past and that lead to creating havoc in countless North American open-wheel series like the USAC, CART and Champ Car.
