Reports are stating that Honda and the IndyCar series came to an agreement last week for the engine manufacturer to remain in that capacity for the next two years.
Honda joined the IRL in 2003 after dominating the former CART series between 1996 and 2001 and the company has been a loyal partner through the recent difficult years.
Honda has been a major player in the series not only by leasing engines that have remarkable reliability but also by being a title sponsor for races at St. Petersburg and Mid-Ohio.
In recent years, Honda management was adamant in saying that lack of competition could force them out of the series but with the announcement that other major manufacturers could join in 2012, Honda clearly wants to stick around to see if any competition materializes.
