Continuing its efforts to launch new models that will attract younger customers, Buick is said to be planning the introduction of a rebadged Opel Astra GTC, whose predecessor was sold in North America as the Saturn Astra hatchback. A droptop variant is reportedly considered as well.
According to Car and Driver, the success of the Buick Regal (known as Opel Insignia in Europe) has convinced GM to bring the GTC this side of the Atlantic.
For the North American market, two familiar 4-cylinder powertrains will likely be offered, including a naturally-aspirated, 2.4-litre Ecotec engine producing an estimated 177 horsepower and a turbocharged, 2.0-litre unit that makes around 220 horsepower. Six-speed automatic and manual transmissions will complete the package under the hood.
The current Astra GTC is way more advanced and refined, at least aesthetically, than the previous generation that was available on this land.
The future Buick will most definitely get a brand-new model designation in order to spark interest and create a clear separation from the old Astra in the minds of consumers.
