At the U.K. launch of the Tesla Model S, CEO Elon Musk told journalists that he will share the patents for the company's Superchargers in an effort to speed up the development and mainstream adoption of electric vehicles.
Musk believes a universal charging system is the only way to go, and other EV manufacturers should follow the lead.
Beyond profits, Tesla's head honcho cares about bringing the electric car to the masses more than anything. Of course, that means costs will go down and Tesla will be able to sell even more units. Everybody wins.
