Other standard features on the less expensive Commander include seven- stadium-style seating (meaning the rows get higher so people in the back have a better view), flip-up glass on the liftgate with remote control, power one-touch up/down front windows, power heated mirrors, all-terrain tires and 17-inch cast-aluminum wheels, power eight-way driver seat, air conditioning, AM/FM stereo with compact disc player and six speakers, cruise control, and tire pressure monitoring warning.

The 2006 Jeep Commander Limited comes standard with the 4.7-litre V-8 engine, which is good for 235 hp and 305 lb-ft torque, and is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission.

In the Limited edition of Commander, the 5.7-litre V-8 cranks out 330 hp and 375 lb-ft torque and uses a cylinder-deactivation system called Multi-Displacement System (MDS) that shuts off four of the engine's cylinders when they're not needed and delivers better fuel economy as a result. How much of an improvement depends completely on the traffic conditions and driving style, but Accavitti says it can go as high as 20 percent.

The base Limited model uses the base level of the four-wheel-drive system, but the Hemi models get the Quadra-Trac II system that provides full-time active four-wheel-drive, which Accavitti says anticipates and prevents wheel slip for optimum traction during a wide range of conditions.

Other standard features on the 2006 Jeep Commander Limited include chrome grille, front fascia, body side moulding and adjustable roof rail cross bars, rear exterior assist handles with chrome accents, SmartBeam Intelligent Headlight System, power sunroof with CommandView skylights, eight-way power driver seats and four-way power passenger seats, leather-trimmed bucket seats with memory, heated front seats, air conditioning with dual zone automatic temperature control,

leather-wrapped steering wheel, power adjustable pedals, AM/FM stereo with six-disc in-dash CD with MP3 capability and six Boston acoustic speakers, a security alarm, tire pressure monitoring display, rear heating and air conditioning, and a universal garage door opener.

Jeep Commander has the highest level of safety and security technology and features ever offered on a Chrysler Group vehicle, says Accavitti. Jeep Commander has standard side-curtain air bags covering all three rows, including roll-over sensors and standard Electronic Stability Program with electronic roll mitigation.

Other standard safety features include advanced multi-stage driver and front passenger air bags with Occupant Classification System, advanced anti-lock brakes, Brake Assist, all-speed Traction Control System, and ParkSense Rear Park Assist Detection System.
