Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini says that the new engine and transmission ''will be the strong heart of the Murciélago successor next year''. Built completely at company headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese ,the twelve-cylinder, a fundamental feature for this model, will now produce 700 hp at 8,250 rpm and maximum torque of 508 lb-ft available at 5,500 rpm while the “Lamborghini ISR” automated manual gearbox will allow minimal shift times (almost 50% shorter than with a dual-clutch transmission) and everyday usability.

At 235 kilograms, the powerhouse is also extremely lightweight – with every single kilo of engine weight representing around three horsepower of maximum output. To get this weight reduction done, the crankcase and the four-valve cylinder heads will be made from aluminum-silicon alloy. Other work done on the engine includes a short-stroke layout ensuring high-revving performance and very low internal friction and fine tuning on the thermal management system.

Rumours on Internet claim that the name of the mythic Murciélago replacement will be the Jota or the Aventador, but no official information from Lamborghini has been released as of yet concerning the name of their new car.
