In order to promote new technologies, the organisers of the Le Mans 24 Hours will invite three innovative cars to compete in the race.

The first project is well known by IndyCar fans, since the Deltawing was first designed to replace the Dallara chassis in the American open-wheel championship in 2012.

This project was finally rejected by the IndyCar organizers, but the Deltawing will finally be on track at Le Mans next year.

Deltawing

The project is backed by three great names of American motorsport : Highcroft Racing, Dan Gurney and Don Panoz. The main idea of the Deltawing is to provide a very light ans streamlined car, which should reduce drag by almost 50%. The car will be powered by a 1.6 liter turbo engine which will deliver 300 horsepower.

The second project, the Green GT, will be powered by hydrogen, which will be generated by solar energy from the water, through an internal production unit. During its conversion into electricity, it produces only water vapor.

Finally, Courage Technology will present its Ø12, a car that will be 100% electric. The electic engine will be fed by rechargeable batteries which can be changed during the race.
