Volkswagen debuts the new Golf R Variant at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. For the first time ever, this iconic all-wheel-drive compact sports car will indeed be produced as a station wagon. It's scheduled to go on sale in Europe next spring.
Generating 296 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, the Volkswagen Golf R Variant accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.
Outside, you'll notice new R bumpers, quad tailpipes, large air intakes, a distinctive radiator grille (with “R” logo), matte chrome mirror caps, bi-xenon headlights, and U-shaped LED daytime running lights.
With seating for five and 605 litres of cargo room (similar to a CUV), the Volkswagen Golf R Variant features sport seats with a fabric and Alcantara mix, blue ambient lighting, automatic air conditioning, and the Composition Touch infotainment system. The cargo floor in the luggage compartment can be varied in height or completely removed in just a few movements to optimize flexibility.
