Braking power was convincing as for any M-B vehicle but fuel consumption was noticeable. Highway driving was a little difficult because of the steering box and strong sidewinds had quite an effect on the boxy design. As a matter of fact, by the shape of the hood and by the looks of the dashboard, I thought at a certain point that I was driving an oversized deluxe Jeep TJ (Wrangler) ! Why not? They belong to the same carmaker now ! Speedometer shows a capacity of 240 kmh but I would not be comfortable at that speed with the G500.
Finally, would I buy a Mercedes-Benz G500 if I had the means? Probably. Not only because it really stands apart but also because it seems built like a tank. I wonder how much it would cost to maintain such a vehicle? Just looking at the complex exhaust system with an almost concealed muffler (the exhaust tip is located just in front of the rear left wheel) already made me wonder.
Still, I was happy driving that monster Mercedes. I enjoyed the ride and mostly, I surprised more than one person with its incredible performance. Mercedes will surely not sell thousands of those G500 in Canada but the few priviliged people who will own one will surely feel as different and unique as the G500 is.
