New CLS Expected to be Technology Showcase

Remember the crossover sedan/coupe that Mercedes-Benz presented at this year's Frankfurt motor show (IAA)? Last week Mercedes-Benz made the final decision to take the plunge and turn the Vision CLS into a production car, thus the 'vision' of the practical but sporty M-B has become a reality.

Speculators hunched their bets that the German manufacturer was considering sliding the Vision CLS into its ever-growing lineup, simply because the brand had been trying to expand in such a direction for many years. Benz believes that there is a demand for a car with the gracious curves of a two-door coupe, but without the impracticality of two fewer doors.

DaimlerChrysler boss Professor Jürgen Hubbert stated that the Vision CLS had an overwhelming number of inquiries at the IAA, sealing the proposition to give it the green light for production.

While no specifications have been released, Mercedes-Benz seems bent on creating one of the most technically advanced cars on the market. The four-door CLS will feature the brand's advanced air suspension, its exclusive 7G-Tronic 7-speed automatic transmission, Sensotronic brakes, active climate control that adjusts itself for temperature and humidity, plus xenon headlamps which swivel according to the direction the car is headed. The CLS will also receive adaptive airbags, window bags, and side airbags to keep occupants safe in the event of a collision.
