Mercedes is set to debut the new 2013 GLK-Class SUV in New York in April, with nearly a thousand new parts in total.

The new GLK will feature ECO start/stop function and, making its debut in the GLK line on the GLK250, a BlueTEC diesel emission control system.

Rear-wheel-drive and 4MATIC versions get an updated exterior with short overhangs, upright front end, slender roof pillars, steep windshield and newly designed headlamps.

Inside, designers have completely overhauled the dashboard, with a large, burled-walnut trim piece, new round air vents and standard features that include premium leather multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters and 4.5-inch colour display in the instrument cluster. New upholstery colours and seat designs will be available.

New for 2013, a Direct Select shifter on the steering column enhances the seven-speed automatic, freeing up space in the centre column for cup holders.

An available Lane Tracking package will include Blind Spot Assist & Lane Keeping Assist; a Driver Assistance package will include Distronic Plus with Pre-Safe brake, brake assist plus, active blind spot assist and active lane-keeping assist.

The 2013 GLK350 will appear this summer, following by the GLK250 BlueTEC early next year.
