Mercedes Benz was present at this year's New York International Auto Show in a big way. After a tremendous start to 2009 sales in Canada, the German manufacturer presented a selection of new and upcoming models that will soon make their way to showrooms.

Mercedes E63 AMG

The regional debut of the E-Class Coupe took place, showcasing a dynamic and sleek two-door variant of the popular sedan and wagon. The E-Class Coupe gets a sweeping roofline, a sophisticated fascia with LED lights, plenty of aggressive sculpting and exaggerated fender flares for a high-class look of sportiness and stability. New fans of the car noted the absence of B-pillars, as well as fully retractable side windows.

An Agility Control suspension system is standard, and various diesel and gasoline engines are available--depending on the market in question. Set to go on sale next month, the E-Class Coupe boasts leading aerodynamic performance alongside a full suite of highly advanced features like drowsiness detection, Adaptive Main Beam Assist, road sign recognition and automatic emergency braking.

Interested shoppers can expect the availability of an AMG styling package and either AVANTGARDE or ELEGANCE interior concepts.

The E63 AMG Sedan was also on display for performance enthusiasts. This specially-tuned model represents the extreme side of the E-Class range, with power delivered by a hand-built V8 with 525 ponies. A 7-speed 'SPEEDSHIFT' gearbox is standard. No word yet on an E63 AMG Coupe.

For those after something greener, the automaker presented their ML450 Hybrid as well. In this crossover, a 3.5-litre V6 teams up with an electric drive system that's based on the Two-Mode system developed with Chrysler, BMW and GM. Total power output of 335 horses is delivered alongside a reduction in fuel consumption and emissions.

Also new in the Mercedes Benz SUV lineup was a refreshed GL range that will go on sale as a 2010 model. Fans of the 7-passenger model noted the new LED taillamps, revised grille, wheels and headlights.

Finally, a diesel-powered Vision E250 BlueTEC show car was present, that hosts an efficient 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 381 lb-ft of torque for optimized mileage and emissions. Fuel economy is said to achieve up to 5.3 L/100 km.
