Norbert Haug said that seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher is going to test the new 2012 Mercedes DTM car.
Haug, the boss of Mercedes Motorsport, explained that Michael Schumacher may move to the DTM when « (he) would no longer drive in Formula 1. Michael is full of respect for the DTM drivers. At some point he will definitely test our new coupe for 2012 ».
Michael Schumacher’s contract with Mercedes GP runs until the end of the 2012 season, and it would have sense to see him stay under the Mercedes banner in a future career. Schumacher would move on to DTM series, a very spectacular championship tjhat will feature three major car manufacturers (Mercedes, Audi and BMW).
Indeed, Michael Schumacher ran several DTM races in the past with Mercedes, back in 1991 before he made his F1 debut.
The DTM already hosted numerous former F1 drivers in the past, such as Jean Alesi, Mika Hakkinen, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, while David Coulthard and Ralf Schumacher currently race in the series, driving C-Class Mercedes. Ralf and Michael Schumacher in the DTM Mercedes team would generate a lot of excitement amongst the fans.
BMW has already revealed its 2012 M3 DTM car, and Audi has published the first pictures of its new A5 DTM 2012. Mercedes has still made no announcement in regards to the car it will run in 2012, but it will likely be a C-Class Coupe.
