Sometimes you just have to get out of Dodge. It's nothing personal to your friends, family, job (maybe your job) or even the neighbourhood you live in; you just have to get away for a bit. We've all felt this way at least once in our lives, and I can bet at the very moment you wanted to jump ship you didn't exactly have the cash to drop at the airport for a flight outta there. Well, rejoice: There's a cheaper (much more enjoyable) option. The road trip.

It's been the subject of many a movie, sitcom, novel, even commercials; but I feel like it's something we just don't do enough. Road trips offer so much more than a traditional vacation. Imagine for a moment, if you will, driving across Canada. Think of the things you'd see that you wouldn't hopping on a plane in Montreal and getting off in Vancouver. It's just not the same! Sure, it takes a hell of a lot longer, but then we always want our vacations to last longer, don't we?

So, if you decide to take the road trip plunge (and somehow find the time), you'll want to make sure you have a few things first: good company, good snacks, good tunes and a fabulous ride that'll get you to your destination in style and in one piece. So, what would I choose?

Sure you could choose a roomy Range Rover Sport Supercharged to get you there in serious style. But then you'd run out of gas money before you got out of your own city. Interior space and comfort is important, and I absolutely adore the Range Rover, but I wouldn't be caught doing cross-provincial journeys in one, despite more than one wallet paying for the fuel.

If drive experience was all I cared about, I'd be peeling out in a Porsche 911 Turbo in a heartbeat -- charcoal grey exterior, bright red leather interior. Maybe I'd bring a passenger, but only one. With non-existent backseats and a boot (under the hood) that's big enough to fit a cooler and nothing else, this is not meant to be a long-hauler. But get out to those straight, smooth Prairie roads and I guarantee your knees will go weak and you'll fall madly in love.
