Ferrari recently announced that a new model will join the lineup, the California. So far, only a few pictures of the fiery red roadster have been released. And it took several days before the Italian automaker showed images of the car with the top up.

The California is motivated by a 4.3L V8 engine featuring direct injection and producing 460 horsepower at 7,500 rpm. It's mated to a 7-speed twin-clutch transmission -- a first for Ferrari. Helping the car sprint from 0 to 100 kph in less than 4 seconds is a takeoff assist system.

Despite all this performance, extra efforts have been made to improve fuel economy. Ferrari promises an average rating of 13.2 L/100 km for the new coupe.

According to the company, the 2009 California will be exhilarating yet extremely easy to drive. It will also be versatile, with a maximum cargo capacity of 360 liters -- impressive for such an exotic car.
