Following his last victory in Misano, where he equalled the record for premier class wins set by MotoGP Legend Giacomo Agostini, series leader Valentino Rossi also plans to be the first ever rider to win the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix.

MotoGP teams are setting up in the Indianapolis circuit pit lane.

Rossi has won the last three races extending his lead over Ducati's Casey Stoner with over 75 points. Stoner, who crashed out in the last two Grand Prix while leading, has not given up on his title bid but he needs to put in points in each of the races remaining.

The gap between Rossi and Stoner has been extended in recent weeks but, on the contrary, the gap between the Ducati rider and Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa has been reduced to just two points. The Spaniard will be making his debut on Bridgestone tyres at the Indianapolis race, having announced a switch from Michelin immediately after the San Marino showdown.

The new 2.6-mile road course designed for the arrival of the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix was completed earlier this year, and includes parts of both the existing oval and Formula 1 tracks.
