British comedian, Rowan Atkinson, collided with a lamppost and caught fire to his £600,000 McLaren F1 in Haddon, England Thursday evening.
The actor, best known for his work as Mr. Bean, was travelling alone on the A605 near Peterborough, England, when he spun out on wet pavement and mashed his beloved McLaren into a lamppost on the side of the road. While, thankfully, Atkinson walked away from the crash with only a minor shoulder injury that had him staying in a local hospital overnight, this isn't the first time Mr. Bean has been dubbed Mr. Bang.
In 1999, almost immediately after purchasing the car, Atkinson rear-ended a Rover Metro while driving the deep-purple 627 hp McLaren F1. Immediately after that slip behind the wheel, Mr. Bang's nickname was born in the British media.
Just a few weeks ago, Atkinson was on Top Gear UK and clocked the fastest time around their track in the show's reasonably priced car, doing it in just 1m 42.2 seconds.
So, Mr. Bang (Bang) has made headlines again, and while it pains us to see images of his F1 being shoved onto a flatbed to head for repairs at the McLaren factory in Woking, we're just glad Mr. Bang (Bang) walked away unharmed (save for his pride, of course).
