All these neglects cause accidents on the road, and tragedies like the one I mentioned at the beginning of this article. By the way, if you doubt of the authenticity of that story, know that it happened in Montreal in December 2002, and there was a coroners' investigation in order to determine the cause of this drama. And what were the conclusions? They were simple. The death of the baby was caused by the bad condition of the vehicle. And what was his recommendation?

To implant a mandatory inspection system on vehicles.

It's obvious that there are many people who own a vehicle and are in a precarious financial situation. And that's one of the most-mentioned arguments against mandatory inspections. However, should we let people who have vehicles that are potentially dangerous for others take the road that way?

If I pass a driving test, and I'm told that I have to wear glasses while driving but can't afford to buy a pair, and want to drive my car anyway, should I? I know, it's cruel. But, whether we like it or not, we have to consider paying a minimum amount of expenses each year in maintenance when we want to own a car.

I am sure that if I asked you, you could easily think of one or more examples of people you know, or knew, that badly maintained their vehicle, if at all. Let's be honest, would you be ready to say that the main reason these fellow's cars weren't maintained properly was the lack of money? Or is it a simple lack of interest for their automobile, or for the automobile in general?

To conclude the monetary aspect of possessing a vehicle, which I didn't write enthusiastically, if you can't maintain a vehicle, you'd better consider carpooling, public transport, using your bike or rollerblades, or any other way. Your security and that of others depend on it.

The automobile: a weapon

When I took my driving lessons at 16, the teacher told us something that I never forgot. The automobile is a weapon. And like any weapon that possesses a destructive potential, it must be handled with care. The more people will be conscious of that, the more they will be careful in their way of driving and maintaining their vehicle.
