Fuel cell vehicles are quite promising, but we've only begun to realize their potential. Scientists have discovered that graphene, a form of crystalline carbon that's extremely strong and about 200 times lighter than steel, could have the ability to capture hydrogen in the air.

If automakers somehow manage to incorporate this material to the body structure of their fuel cell vehicles, they could get rid of the hydrogen tanks, thus eliminating the need for refuelling stations!

Sir Andrei Geim, who won the physics Nobel prize in 2011, is the one who made the discovery. If it all works out, we could see a couple of years from now automobiles with on-board devices or full body panels made of graphene that can capture hydrogen in the air.
