It was another one of the Ford Friendly Fridays as David Ragan won his first Sprint Cup Pole followed by Roush Fenway teammate Carl Edwards.

In fact the Blue Oval brigade claimed three of the top four and four of the top nine starting spots for Saturday's night race at the 1.5 mile Texas Motor Speedway.

"Momentum is a very powerful thing and we have some momentum on our side," said Ragan whose speed was 189.820 mph.

"Our UPS Freight car not only looks good but it's fast this weekend. Drew (Blickensderfer) made a great call to change the setup around a little before this last practice run and it did what it needed to do. Hopefully it can be just as good for 500 miles on Saturday night."

“We were so close. That is cool for David though. If we had to be second to anyone in qualifying David would be the guy. Those guys have been working really hard,” said Edwards.

The pole was also the first Sprint Cup pole for Roush Fenway at Texas Motor Speedway, despite seven victories in 94 starts.

Clint Bowyer, from the Richard Childress Racing stable, qualified third fastest driving a Chevrolet.

“Brought me a new hot rod,” Bowyer said. “ Fast. Looking forward to the race tomorrow night. I wasn't expecting that in qualifying. Richard came on the radio there and told me 'Hey, Carl ran the outside, run right there in the middle. You need to try it.' I did and it was a pretty good lap so pretty excited about it."

Matt Kenseth was fourth in a Ford while Regan Smith, from the single car Furniture Row Racing team, continued to surprise many, including himself, at fifth fastest.

“I have no clue,” Smith laughed.” I don’t know but I’ll take it. I’m more excited about this car in race trim. I felt good about last week’s car. We had some problems with the brake rotor at the end of the race. This car here, just right off the truck is really good. So I’m excited about it.”
