What a comeback for veteran Mark Martin (Chevy No 5). As he is now driving full time for Hendrick Motorsports, Mark Martin is a man with a mission: to prove that at age 50, he still can drive a Sprint Cup car and win.

And that is just what he did at the Phoenix International Speedway Saturday evening by grabbing the checkered flag at the Subway Fresh Fit 500. He even did it from the pole position!

This was Mark Martin's first win in 97 races and the first in a car other than a Roush Ford! He also led the most laps, 157 of the 312.

A very satisfied Tony Stewart (Chevy No 14) ended up second followed by Kurt Busch (Dodge No 2). Jimmie Johnson (Chevy No 48) came in fourth followed by Greg Biffle (Ford No 16).

Though he came in 25th place, Jeff Gordon (Chevy No 24) still leads the championship, some 85 points over teammate Jimmie Johnson.

There were only six yellow flag situations in the race but some 10 different drivers exchanged the lead 14 times. Martin's average speed was 108.043 mph.

The Sprint Cup series will move to the incredibly fast Talladega Superspeedway next Sunday.
