Scenedaily.com reports on Friday that NASCAR team Michael Waltrip Racing is suing former McLaren Formula 1 engineer Mike Coughlan.
The British engineer was one of the actors in the infamous McLaren/Ferrari espionage scandal in 2007. Coughlan was fired by McLaren and suspended by F1 for two years when he was found to be in possession of confidential documents belonging to Ferrari.
Coughlan joined Michael Waltrip Racing in October 2010 as the director of vehicle design.
However, he left MWR in June to join the Williams F1 team before his contract allegedly ran out.
According to the complaint, the Brit had signed a two-year deal with MWR holding a one-year option.
Scenedaily.com says that the suit alleges that his departure impacted the team's performance, resulting in a loss of prize money and potential sponsorship. MWR racing has struggled this season with both Martin Truex Jr. (23rd in the standings) and David Reutimann (26th) performing below expectations.
Coughlan is apparently once again in hot water.
