Jacques Villeneuve set the fastest time in the first practice session of the NASCAR Nationwide event in Montreal while Italian Max Papis was quickest in the final session just before lunch break on Saturday.
Villeneuve, driving the Dollar General Braun Racing Toyota, set a time of 1:41.108 to top the field in the morning. He beat Carl Edwards, Boris Said, Marcos Ambrose, Brad Keselowski, Max Papis and Patrick Carpentier.
After a short 30-minute break, the Nationwide drivers returned in action, mostly to verify their qualifying set-up. The sun came out meanwhile, warming up the tarmac.
Papis, behind the wheel of the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet emerged quickest of all, smashing the 1:41 barrier with a time of 1:40.764.
Jacques Villeneuve ranked second with a time of 1:40.910. He was followed by Marcos Ambrose, Jason Leffler, Patrick Carpentier and Boris Said.
Qualifying is scheduled to start at 5:05 pm Saturday afternoon.
