Tony Stewart (Camry No 20) finally won a NASCAR Sprint Cup race this year (and his first race at this track), the Amp 500 wreck fest at the fast Talladega Superspeedway.

Physically, it was rookie Reagan Smith (Chevy No 01) who crossed the line first but his passing Stewart under the yellow line was disallowed by NASCAR and he was credited with the 18th place at the finish.

Paul Menard (Chevy No 15) was thus second followed by David Ragan (Ford No 6). There were two huge crashes, the second one a few lap from the end involving many of the Chasers including Carl Edwards (Ford No 99) who finished 29th but remains second in the championship, teammates Greg Biffle (Ford No 16) and Matt Kenseth (Ford No 17) and other drivers such as Kevin Harvick (Chevy No 29), Juan Pablo Montoya (Dodge No 42) and Travis Kvapil (Ford No 28) who had the pole.

Jimmie Johnson (Chevy No 48) ended up ninth but still leads the Chase. Canadian Patrick Carpentier did not participate in that race not being qualified.
