The insurance will pay for some of the damage to the car, but not the costs to repair guard rails ($42/metre), the safety car ($110/30 minutes) or any other damaged component. Should the track need to be closed, expect to shell out a hefty $1,820 per hour. I wouldn't want to swallow that bill! Therefore, it's crucial to master the car, stay within your limits and respect other drivers. Things can get ugly in a real hurry, especially at 180+ km/h.

Laps went by so quickly that the 10 minutes required to complete the course felt more like three. I averaged a speed of 110 km/h, which is relatively fast, but it was more the total focus on the track that ended up creating this warp zone. My package included six laps and I savoured every single one of them, constantly mixing fear with glee and wishing for the experience to last forever.
Time sure flies when you're having a blast and, much to my chagrin, I handed the keys back to Mr. Simons. We had a short debriefing and then said goodbye – but of course I'm already thinking about coming back!
When I look back at my Nürburgring adventure, I really don't regret investing so much of my personal savings. This was a memorable part of a memorable trip full of excitement and discoveries.
I left the fabulous town of Nürburg with a heavy heart and a big sigh. Rest assured that preparation for my glorious return to the legendary track will soon be underway!
Unlike most race tracks, the Nürburgring is considered a toll road and ordinary folks like you and me can take advantage of it at certain times during the year, including on weekends and some weeknights. (Photo: Matthieu Lambert/Auto123.com) |
