Executives at ICP Solar, a Montreal-based company manufacturing solar panels and products, announced that they have entered into a sales contract with Japanese automaker Nissan for OEM solar charger systems.
No information as to which models will receive these chargers has been released, but Nissan confirmed that many will. The idea is both simple and ingenious. Charging a car's battery using solar panels frees up the alternator, which is driven by the engine. The latter's workload is lessened and fuel economy is improved.
As a result, it will be virtually impossible for your battery to run out since it will be charged even when your vehicle is parked in the driveway. The solar charger will be mounted on top of the dashboard where light has an easy time penetrating inside the vehicle.
