At the upcoming 2008 Mondial de l'Automobile de Paris, to be held from October 2 to 19, Porsche will unveil a special edition of its popular SUV that will be commercialized as the Cayenne S Transsyberia.
Porsche designed the vehicle to commemorate the Cayenne S's success in the Trans-Siberian Rally. This gruelling endurance race is held over two weeks, during which competitors cross the 7,000 kilometres between Russia and Mongolia on secondary roads only.
Based on the Cayenne S, the Transsyberia will be powered by a 4.8-litre, direct injection V8 producing 405 hp. Usually reserved for the Cayenne GTS, this engine will be coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Cayenne S Transsyberia will also feature a slew of accessories designed to enhance its off-road capabilities, which namely include air suspension coupled with the PASM, a control system that constantly adjusts the suspension's firmness in order to optimize comfort and ride.
The Transsyberia will also be equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, protective understructure plates and Alcantara-covered sport seats. An extra off-road package is available featuring a locking rear differential, extra protective plates and a second tow hook.
Six hundred units of the Cayenne S Transsyberia will be available in North America next summer as 2010 year models, with a base price of US$70,800.
