After three years out of the World Rally Championship, Chris Atkinson will make his WRC return in Rally Mexico, where he will drive a Ford Fiesta RS WRC of theMonster Rally Team alongside Ken Block.

Atkinson was left without seat after Subaru’s withdrawal from WRC at the end of 2008 season, after the Australian driver ran under the colours of the Japanese manufacturer during four years.

Atkinson then competed in the Rally Ireland in 2009, where he took a solid fifth position with a Citroën C4. That was his last appearance in the WRC.

During the last two seasons, Chris Atkinson drove a Proton R3 in the Asias-Pacific Championship.

Last week, Chris Atkinson was more than happy after he tested for the first time the Fiesta RS WRC he will drive in Mexico.

“The car was awesome,” he said. “It’s the first time I’ve ever driven a Ford rally car and it’s not hard to see why the car won in Sweden ».

“The test was fantastic,” he added. “It’s mad being back in a World Rally Car! And especially on Rally Mexico, an event which I like and have a pretty solid record. I was second to [Sebastien] Loeb last time out, I wouldn’t mind that result next month!”
