Rally: M-Sport confirms the production of the Ford Fiesta R5 rally car

British entreprise M-Sport has confirmed it will go ahead with the production of the new Ford Fiesta R5 rally car based on the new technical regulations which are set to replace the Super 2000 category in the near future.

M-Sport is headed by Malcom Wilson and it handles Ford's motorsport programme in the FIA World Rally Championship.

Several car manufacturer are apprently working on such a new breed of rally cars, namely Peugeot, Citroen, Skoda and Ford. These cars are destined to be raced in domestic and regional rally series.

The all-wheel drive Fiesta R5 will be powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine fitted with a 32-mm air retrictor and will be wearing a bodywork and aerodynamic package similar to their World Rally Car counterparts.

The R5 should be sold almost half the cost of a genuine WRC car.
