After the Hyundai Genesis and Ford F150 were named the North American Car and Truck of the Year (NACOTY), it was time for the folks at the International Car of the Year (ICOTY) to have their say.
For the 13th year, the ICOTY awards were presented at the MGM Grand Detroit at an exclusive black-tie event hosted by hundreds of industry leaders and VIP's. U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow even provided opening remarks for the ceremony.
The ICOTY awards are intended to honor new models that go above and beyond power and performance and truly tap into the lifestyles of their shoppers and owners.
Voting was carried out by some 16 renowned journalists, and it was ultimately the super-potent Nissan GT-R and restyled and re-designed Dodge Ram that took home first place.
The ceremony also debuted the 'green focused' Earth, Wind & Power (EWP) Awards for car and truck. Winners here were the infamous Jetta TDI and the Ford Escape Hybrid, respectively.
Additionally, Honda received an Earth Angel award for being the year's most environmentally-friendly automaker.
