A total of 7,865 MINI Cooper and Cooper S hatchbacks and convertibles from the 2005-2008 model years are being recalled in Canada due to a front passenger seat occupant detection mat that can fatigue over time.
As a result, the passenger airbag could deactivate, illuminating the airbag warning lamp and the passenger airbag ON/OFF lamp. This obviously presents a safety risk in the event of a crash.
MINI dealers will replace the occupant detection mat at no cost.
Affected models include:
- MINI Cooper (2005-2006);
- MINI Cooper Convertible (2005-2008);
- MINI Cooper S (2005-2006);
- MINI Cooper S Convertible (2005-2008).
