Russian Lada cars have made their racing debut in the WTCC series. Today, the WTCC office has announced that the two Lada 110 cars of Jaap van Lagen and Viktor Shapovalov have been declared eligible to score championship points.
The decision was issued by the FIA Touring Car Bureau on the basis of the Option Variant filed by the Russian Manufacturer to amend the Group N homologation form of the LADA 110.
In the three previous meetings at Valencia, Pau and Brno, the Russian cars had been considered transparent because the intake and outlet ports of the cylinder head did not conform to the homologation form.
Further to this decision, Russian Bears Motorsport and their drivers are now also eligible to score points for the Independents' and Teams' Trophies from Estoril onwards.
