Following its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show, the Saab BioPower E100 makes its North American debut at the New York International Auto Show. It is the first turbocharged concept vehicle to run on E100 fuel (100 % pure bioethanol).

Saab has already produced a BioPower E85, which is currently Europe's best-selling bioethanol-powered vehicle.

The Saab BioPower E100 is based on the 9-5 SportCombi wagon. Its interior features white leather-appointed seats and carbon fiber accents. The car also include the AlcoKey immobilizer system that prevents the engine from starting if the driver fails the alco-test. This system is being tested and could soon become optional in Sweden.

In production trim, the Saab BioPower E100 uses a 150-hp, 2.0L engine. Meanwhile, the concept delivers 300 hp, sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h. All this is achieved, obviously, with the least amount of greenhouse gas emissions.
