The specialists will tell you, cleaning a car requires extensive care, good products and the patience of a saint. Especially if you're doing it yourself. But mishandle products or use inappropriate ones, and you can kiss the desired results goodbye.

And because most of the products are powerful, they're harmful for the environment and require facilities with running water and lots of space.

Unfortunately, there's not much you can do about available space. But as for facilities and products, there may be a solution: the Sans-ZO product.

Designed to be environmentally friendly, Sans-ZO cleans without water. And because the company aspires to be green and modern, it has accepted to donate 1% of its profits to non-governmental organizations that promote the fair distribution of drinking water around the world.

But can such a product really clean your car? There's nothing better than a good, old-fashioned product trial by Auto123.com's photographers, who often have to deal with difficult conditions, out-of-the-way places and cars of questionable shine.

Mud and dust

The trial was conducted over a few photo shoots on vehicles of all sizes and colours. Even better, it was also conducted in all sorts of weather to determine the product's resistance to the sun's rays as well as the most insistent rain showers.

First observation: you have to put in the time. Sans-ZO must be manually applied with a small spray bottle and requires a good deal of attention. Also, you have to work small sections at a time, which implies great care and a lot of patience.

Second observation: you absolutely have to use the microfibre cloth that comes with the product. But if your car's really dirty, the cloth quickly becomes filthy and doesn't do the job, leaving deep residues.

We still had to admit that in the interest of the cause, and for superficial cleaning, the product proved very effective. It allowed us, without too much effort, to make dirty rocker panels shine, as well as hoods made dusty by a few kilometres of secondary roads.

Even in full sunlight Sans-ZO was up to the task, but we had to be quick about it - as soon as it dries it becomes harder to wipe off and leaves a residue behind, as most products and conventional waxes do.

On the upside, you can use Sans-ZO on plastic without thinking twice, even the mattest ones, without worrying about that white residue that is impossible to get rid of.

Affordable (you can find it at a several retailers at a low price), environmentally friendly and even generous for the cause, Sans-ZO is definitely an interesting alternative for small jobs, as long as the vehicle isn't covered in mud. It's sometimes hard to change old habits, but Sans-ZO is a product that is environmentally friendly.

You can purchase their products in Sans-Zo's online store.
