With the Scion brand being phased out, the FR-S coupe will be introduced as the 2017 Toyota 86 at this week’s New York Auto Show. It will go on sale at all dealerships this fall.

Expect some interior and exterior changes, as well as suspension and powertrain upgrades. More specifically, the new Toyota 86 will add LED headlamps, turn signals, and taillights, as well as new wheels and bumpers. On the inside, the 86 will sport new materials on the seats, door panels, and instrument panel.

With regard to performance, revised shock tuning and a spring rate change will improve handling. The manual transmission gets a gear ratio change for quicker acceleration, while output is up 5 hp for a total of 205 hp.

“We are excited to be moving into a new stage of growth for Toyota by welcoming fresh and inspiring designs like the Toyota 86 into the fold,” said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President of Sales, Toyota Canada. “The new name and features perfectly complement our existing Toyota lineup of cars designed to meet the needs of creative, young urban professionals, and we know this important vehicle will be very well received.”
