Model:Kia Forte Koup
Starting Price: $19,095
Overview: The premise of the Forte Koup is simple: it aims to give sports-car shoppers on a budget a whole lot for their money. A slick and sporty interior, numerous dynamic design touches and fun-to-drive dynamics are all part of this affordably-priced package. Choose between 2.0 or 2.4 litre engines with 156 or 173 horsepower, and automatic or manual transmissions on both. Even decked out in “SX Luxury” trim for $24,695, it includes leather seats, navigation, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a sunroof and more. Affordable sportiness takes on a whole new meaning with this one.
Pros: Forte Koup has a great warranty, great look, and plenty of feature content for the money. Safety equipment and connectivity features are also top-notch, and the choice of two engines and various trim levels works towards tremendous selection.
Cons: Forte Koup is only available as a two-door model, and the 173-horsepower up-level engine may not satisfy more discerning performance buffs.
Noteworthy: On models with the automatic transmission, an ECO-Minder indicator helps drivers to visualize their driving habits to save fuel, reducing operating costs. Steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters come with the automatic transmission, and the engine fires up at a button press.
On my test-drive of the Kia Forte Koup, I guessed the price several thousand dollars higher than it actually was before reading the build-sheet. If you’re after maximum equipment and style for your sports car dollar, this one’s a must-drive.
