The BMW-Sauber Formula 1 team has unveiled some astonishing numbers and data about their involvement in Grand Prix racing. Here are a few ones...
A total of eight F1.07 carbon fibre composite chassis were used in 2007. Five of these saw race action, while the others were employed solely in testing.
On a Grand Prix weekend the entire crew, including the logistics, marketing, press and catering staff, is around 80-strong.
When the BMW takeover of the Sauber team was announced in summer 2005, the workforce in Hinwil numbered 275. By the end of 2006 this had risen to 400 and by late 2007 the goal of almost 430 had been reached.
For flyaway Grands Prix, the team transports around 32 tonnes of airfreight. This includes four chassis (three plus one spare), six to eight engines, three to five sets of spare parts, 160 wheel rims, 100 radio sets, headphones, tools, computers and pit garage equipment. Everything is packed onto three ten-foot pallets and four vast packing containers known as "igloos".
