As we have been used to for years now, the Insurance Bureau of Canada published its annual list of the most stolen vehicles in Canada, based on actual insurance claims information collected from companies that write almost all automobile insurance in Canada.
Having its expensive all-wheel/four-wheel drive car or truck being stolen is still trendy according to this report, as 5 out of the 10 automobiles of this list are meeting those criteria.
Without causing any surprise, 1999 and 2000 SiR Honda Civics still takes number one and number two ranks as it has been the case for years now. Taking third and fourth comes respectively 2002 and 2004 Cadillac Escalades.
According to Statistics Canada, 108,172 vehicles were stolen in Canada in 2009, a drop of 15% from 2008. Including all expenses linked to car burglaries such as lawyers, policing and out-of-pocket auto theft cost Canadian insurer a total of $1 billion annually.
