Alcotest Québec Inc. is proud to announce that it has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its single-usage Alco-Tube Plus breathalyzer, which has been available in Canada for a few years now. This decision allows the Quebec-based company to target the American market.

Over ten months of studies and analyses on the accuracy and reliability of Alco-Tube Plus were needed before a certification was issued. This breathalyzer, which also meets ISO 9001 standards, lets users know in just two minutes if their blood alcohol level is above the legal limit for driving a vehicle. The chemical salt inside turns green when the alcohol level exceeds the limit in effect in Quebec, which is 0.08 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood.

As the name suggests, Alco-Tube Plus is a small, portable glass tube. All you have to do is to apply pressure on both ends and blow! If it changes from red to white, you have blown long enough. Green means "Don’t drive!"

An estimated one million breathalyzers will be sold in the U.S. by 2010 -- news that has the folks at Alcotest Québec pretty excited. "We’ve been approved by the FDA thanks to the incredible effectiveness and accuracy of our product. In fact, it’s now considered as the most accurate chemical breathalyzer system in the world. We’ve put all our efforts into developing a reliable, easy-to-use product," says General Manager Stéphane Maurais.

Established in 1988, ALCOTEST QUÉBEC Inc. is a pioneer in blood alcohol testers. In addition to Alco-Tube Plus, the company sells full-size public breathalyzers for bars, restaurants, hotels and discos, as well as the AQ 08, a personal electronic breathalyzer.
