Best subcompact SUV: Kia Seltos
Don't think I’ve soured in any way on the solid new Mazda CX-30, a year after I placed Best Value laurels on its head last year. In fact, I probably like it more since Mazda announced the coming debut of the Turbo version, set for later in 2021. But, since this is a value-focused Fight Club we’re dealing with, the model left standing this year is, yep, another brand-new model.
The Kia Seltos didn't take long to convince small-SUV buyers of its worth. Not only is the cousin of the Hyundai Kona more accommodating than it in the trunk, it also offers better headroom. And to top it all off, its driving dynamics are almost as convincing as the CX-30, and at a lower price. It's the Korean formula, don’t you see.
Honourable mention goes to the Subaru Crosstrek, which remains a sure thing, especially since the addition of the “big” 2.5L engine in 2021.

From our review:
"Impressively, the Seltos can actually accommodate more cargo with its rear seats down than the larger Sportage SUV. The flooring has two levels for more versatility, and since the rear bench is 60/40 split fold-down, you can still fit in a third occupant when you want to transport longer objects. Really, this will - or should - be a major selling point for the model as it makes its way into the market."
