Some notes on the market's latest man-to-media interfaces
Ford
Ford’s 'Sync' infotainment system was the first of its kind—and it effectively brought a high-tech, high-functionality infotainment interface to the masses. After a quick learning curve, drivers can manipulate virtually any function related to listening, communicating or navigating with conversational-style voice commands. Forget pulling over to enter a destination address via touch-screen—as Sync can accept coordinates via voice control.

On-screen, common functions are divided into colour-coded segments, making it easy to switch between Climate, Navigation, Communication or Multimedia menus. On many models, Sync is tied in with steering-wheel controls and full-colour displays in the instrument cluster, too. Though it may initially overwhelm first-time infotainment users, Sync is one of the most advanced and functional systems of its kind—and well worth the few-hour learning curve required for comfortable operation.
