Uber reportedly has ordered 100,000 Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedans for its self-driving car business, Reuters found in Germany’s Manager Magazin, which cited sources at both companies.
The controversial ride-sharing service is showing more and more interest in autonomous driving technology in a bid to significantly reduce its operating costs – no more Uber drivers!
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class does not yet allow fully autonomous driving, but the German manufacturer is working on it like a number of competitors.
While other sources claim no order has been placed by Uber, such a transaction would be valued at around €10 billion, which is a staggering sum.
