2008 V70
After nearly 7 years on the market, the new midsized Volvos are starting to appear. The new skin is directly in line with the Volvo's evolving design language. The rear end of the V70 carries Volvo's trademark vertical taillamps that line the "D" pillar from a wide base to the top. The overall shape is more aggressive than the previous and makes the car even more desirable. The interior gets new materials, dual height-adjustable child booster seats integrated into the rear bench and upgraded side curtain air bags. Safety remains empirical for Volvo. Under the hood, the family's 235 hp 3.2L I-6 resides and is said to be efficient and adequate.

XC60 Concept

The XC60 follows a similar design language to the C30 with its two-door configuration, and Volvo CEO Fredrik Arp says it might be the C30 owner's next car. "Equally sporty and exciting, but far more capable" is how he describes it. "The concept car offers a good indication of how the "real" XC60 will look". Powered by a 3.2-liter 6-cylinder bio-ethanol engine, it delivers 265 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque. Emissions drops by 80 percent compared with the same engine running only on regular gasoline. Sporting XC brawn and coupe styling above the waistline, the XC60 offers high ground clearance with large wheels. Look for a production version of the XC60 in 2009.
