The new Volvo S60, V60 and XC60 on display at the Geneva Motor Show will feature a revised Active High Beam Control system making it possible to use the high beams continuously thanks to a clever mechanism that prevents dazzling of oncoming drivers.

The camera already used for the detection and auto brake systems (located by the rearview mirror at the top of the windshield) identifies the oncoming vehicle and the area that needs to be shaded. A tiny cylinder with metal pieces of different sizes allows the possibility of shading just as much of the beam as necessary. The technology is accurate enough to frame the chosen object with only a 1.5° margin.

Volvo has promised to reveal another world-first safety feature in Geneva. Come back next week to find out what it is.
